Job Purpose
To provide safe, ethical, and evidence-based rehabilitation services to older adults and individuals recovering from illness or hospital admission—particularly stroke patients—within community and home-based settings, in line with Nigerian professional practice standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Practice
- Conduct comprehensive therapy assessments in the home environment
- Develop, implement, and review individualised rehabilitation programmes
- Deliver physiotherapy and/or occupational therapy interventions
- Promote independence, mobility, and functional recovery
- Support post-hospital discharge and reablement pathways
- Professional & Regulatory Practice
- Practise in accordance with MRTB Nigeria standards and scope of practice
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical records
- Provide professional reports and progress updates
- Participate in supervision, audit, and service improvement
- Multidisciplinary Working
- Work collaboratively with social workers, care coordinators, HCAs, and hospitals
- Provide guidance and training to carers and families where appropriate
Working Arrangements
- Community and domiciliary-based role
- Flexible, part-time, or sessional contracts available
- Location: Yenagoa and surrounding areas, Bayelsa State
Person Specification
Physiotherapist / Occupational Therapist
Essential Criteria
- Degree or recognised qualification in Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy
- Current registration (or eligibility) with MRTB Nigeria
- Experience working with adults and/or older people
- Knowledge of rehabilitation, functional recovery, and mobility support
- Ability to complete professional assessments and care plans
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Commitment to ethical, person-centred, and safe practice
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in domiciliary or community-based therapy
- Experience supporting stroke or neurological rehabilitation
- Understanding of hospital discharge and reablement pathways
- Experience with equipment prescription and falls prevention
- Flexible availability and willingness to work across community settings
Continuing Professional Development
Therapists are expected to:
- Maintain MRTB registration and CPD requirements
- Engage in supervision and reflective practice
- Participate in service development and training activities
